Hello ladies. I am working with a mom who is going to sit for the
California bar exam at the end of the summer and the Senior Executive for
Admissions has denied her request for accomodations during the exam so that
she can pump milk. Her child will be 6-7 months old at the time and the mom
asked for additional time, testing in a private room where she could take
breaks to pump, and permission to bring in a breast pump, water, and an ice
cooler. Her request was supported by a physician's note.

I am working with this mom to draft an appeal to the Committee of Bar
Examiners, but it is due in the next day or so. Other than the AAP Policy
Statement, please send me any supporting documentation (or links to the
documents) you think we should include in this appeal.

FYI, mom is going to concede that she will not need extra time, that she can
pump immediately before and after the two 3 hour sessions, but only if she
has a private place to go pump, which is right next to the testing location
where her equipment is already set up and ready for her. Thus far, they
have told her that they will provide a quiet room during the lunch break, if
available, at the test center. This is not sufficient as she feels she will
need to pump immediately before and immediately after the two three hour
test sessions. In addition, the stress of not knowing the ease with which
she will be able to pump can negatively impact her milk supply.

BTW, when I took the bar almost three years ago I did receive an
accomodation without a problem. I'm not sure what's happened since then to
cause this change of heart.

Thanks for your help.

Alexis
