Hi Debbie,
Been there, done that! Both my children became fussy, restless,
worse than their already poor sleeping patterns and the second would scream
for 2-3 hours a night for about three days each of the two cycles he
experienced. First child, menses returned at 4.5 months pp along with
previously nasty PMS, second 5.5 weeks, yes weeks. Since I had gotten
pregnant in part to NOT have PMS again for awhile I was seriously bummed and
worried so went for a wide battery of testing. I saw an alternative
practitioner bc every gyn I'd talked with told me it was all in my head and
laughed outright when I suggested the baby was affected...I don't know how
much of the baby's behavior was in response to my stress and my behavior,
but I do know that I am not the only one that noticed, I had other people
rate them not knowing why I was asking... and there was clearly a pattern.
My tests came back clinically borderline for hypothyroid and
clinically subnormal for adrenal cortex functioning. I began thytrophin
PMG, a thyroid stimulator and cycles ceased for four months!! But when they
returned so did all my symptoms and the baby's symptoms. At that point I
went on DHEA as suggested by the adrenal cortex results. While I'm am
ovulating as indicated by temp and mucus changes, I'm NOT having severe
PMS... and there are no outwardly noticeable signs in the kids either. In
fact I am usually quite happy these days, much to my husband's relief.
I'm convinced there is a serotonin, melatonin, estrogen,
progesterone, insulin, prolactin connection here but haven't had the time to
do the research on this myself (gee with two nursing baby's I wonder why not?)

comments oh wise and thoughtful netters?
