Hi, Lactnetters!

I know this has been batted about before and I was able to find one note on it
(and may have more buried in the "to be filed" pile....)

A 42 year old mother with a 5-6 month old baby who pulls at the breast has been
experiencing what seems to be vasospasms--sharp pains deep in breast for an hour
or so after feeding. I spoke with her cousin, an IBCLC with no Lactnet access.
She had looked in JHL and had found a couple of short articles about vasospasms
that both refer back to a couple of articles from Sept 1992, "#8," one by
Hopkinson and one by Coates. Her JHLs (and mine) only go back to 1993. She would
like to know more about what is in these articles, and/or what can she tell her
cousin to help this situation out. The note I had mentioned using heat packs
before nursing, and we talked about trying to get baby to stop pulling back on
the nipple.

Any other help for this mom in pain??

Thanks in advance!
Melissa Vickers, IBCLC
