Where I worked previously and in the nicu where I'm at now, they do not use
2 RNs to check. However, I am assuming the docs are treating the breastmilk
like the blood procedures which require 2 nurses to check the blood before
giving. Howver, if the nurses want to avoid this, they will have to suggest
something else. Maybe color coding the containers with a colored dot on the
baby's id band and ebm container? Or placing the ebm containers in
differenet colored boxes, whatever. Surely they are supposed to check the
labels, and the id band just like when giving a med. But errors do occur of
course just like med errors are fairly common.
