A recent Dutch study showed that a bit more than three quarters of new moms
start breastfeeding, half of them stop within the first month, only 22% of 3
month old still breastfeed. Reasons moms gave in this study were lack of
sufficient milk supply; lack of sufficiant and adequate professional support
and (for the ones stopping towards 3 mnths pp) returning to work.
This study worked out very well on the minister of health who ordered the
(Semi governmental) Centre for Food to launch a breastfeeding promotion
programm right away.
