I have had several moms use st. john's wort while breastfeeding. most use a reputable brand that is standardized. usuall dose is 900mg split into 3 doses daily. 

however a few cautions here. for my research as shown it works more like an SSRI so cannot take while taking current ssri's or maoi's. also she and babe need to use extra sunscreen if  she is not used to it. according to my comm e that in recommended doses photo toxcicity is not likely to occur.   It also like other anti-depressants takes a few weeks to really feel the full effects dont just quit or give up too soon. also watch the baby for any reaction. 

here we need to weigh risks vs benefits. however my books state there are no restrictions known during breastfeeding or pregnancy.
