I had terribly painful MER's with my second child--not with the first or
third. I also had oversupply, but wonder exactly what was cause and what was
effect. This was ten years ago, when there was really no info about OAMER.
Over time, I solved the problem completely--by wearing th baby in a sling and
being too comfortable nursing only on one side that I didn't switch for
several feedings, by nursing upright and across my chest at night and by
taking a calc/mag supplement. I took the calc/mag for an unrelated reason and
found the unexpected result was the painful MER's stopped. A doctor explained
to me that she thought the smooth muscle might be in spasm from a calc/mag
deficiency. I have recommended the calc/mag to other moms who have also had
success. (A deficiency could explain why it might get worse with each baby--I
know I was not defiecient with my third and did not have any pain).
