I've been asked to make a recommendation for our NICU regarding bedside
warming of thawed milk. Normally, the milk is removed from the freezer and
placed in a refrigerator to thaw. It is then placed at the bedside in warm
water for only that feeding. The NICU nurses find it inconvenient to get
water for each feeding, and would like to have bottle warmers or some device
continuously available.
The studies by Hamosh and the HMBANA guidelines do not seem to me to support
the use of any such devices.
Is anyone using anything (evidence based) other than warm water?
Many thanks.
