I like to tell parents  that the first side is dinner---allow the baby time to finish his meal--then burp the baby and offer dessert on  the other side, I go on to explain that at times even we only want dinner without dessert and that at others times we go to the buffet and return for 2nd and evn 3rd helpings before satiated. Babies are not that different from adult, some even like to snack all evening long like we do when sitting in front of the TV:)
