Becky:  This is actually a rather common yeast pattern.  In the study I'm
currently conducting on yeast (one of the protocols includes treating with
Grapefruit seed extract) has cultured yeast under the breasts in 85% of moms
in the study.  In fact, the small hair follicles all over the breasts seem
to be a haven for hydrophobic yeasts.  In the follicles under the breasts
one can "express" (similar to squeezing a pimple) out waxy globules, later
shown to have yeast.  It is amazing how much these smell like bread too.
Usually, the baby has a diaper rash in the classic yeast pattern (in the
folds, around anus, on scrotum in boys) and the poop smells yeasty).   The
standard treatments--both systemic and topical--will need to be followed for
longer since this mom probably has systemic infection; then, follow
treatment with 6 months of rebalancing the mother.  Some useful products for
rebalancing (in which I have no commercial interest) can be obtained through
the Candida Wellness Center (cwchealth.com).
Good luck...this can be challenging.
