This is about societal change. When workplaces allow for paid lactation
breaks; when mothers expect to be able to take enough (paid) leave to be
able to establish lactation; when the solution to every medical problem that
arises with an infant or a mother is not 'put him on the bottle'; when all
health care professionals value breastfeeding enough to make it their
business to learn how to help mothers manage it; when mothers in law,
husbands, partners, sisters and bosses expect mothers to breastfeed; when
mothers expect breastfeeding to be a reliable, manageable, unavoidable part
of mothering; when infant formula is no longer advertised to mothers and
others as 'just like breastmilk' - or even advertised at all; when infant
formula is returned to its rightful place as a lifesaving emergency
pharmaconutritional intervention, then will breastfeeding return to its
rightful place in the lives of human mammals!
