Do you sterilize your kits every time the mother pumps? If so, why? Clean is all that's required. We went away from Lactinas a while back because the symphony kits were less expensive, and our micropreemie moms have done very well with the preemie card with better supplies.

Subject: Medela sterile kits

I am a long-time lurker and haven't posted for a very long time. I work along with 3 others as an LC in a large public hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. This week, we had a sudden inability to get sterile Lactina Double pump kits. Our local rep offered us non-sterile Symphony kits (not a good replacement since we have mostly Lactinas) and complimentray Quick Clean bags to sterile them before patient use! Apparently, there is a failure of the sterilizing equipment at Medela's manufacturing plant. Is this ocurring only in South Florida or have any of you had this difficulty in opther areas of the country? We get many preemies and micropreemies where I work, so sterility is very important.
Thanks in advance.
Carole Glatter RN, IBCLC
