Just had to 'weigh-in' and share what the hospital here does:

Weigh baby at birth, then every night shift until discharge. If baby was
born before 6 pm, then the baby gets weighed again that night, so it could
be as little as 6 hrs after birth.

We also have a fair amt of babies that lose around 10% while in hospital,
and I can't help but think that if they spent the majority of thier time
skin to skin and nursing ad lib we would see alot less. Just recently I had
a mom/baby where baby had lost a few ounces short of 10%. He spent the
majority of his time skin to skin with mom and nursing ad lib. The next
night (going into 3rd day) he had gained 4 oz!

Janette
