Hi Ann,

I may coming into a thread that's already received some discussion, as I'm
finding some time today to read LACTNET after having been off of it for a
while. And, I'm sure my suggestions below are ones you've already
suggested for this mom. But just in case there's something here that
hasn't been tried, here goes:

-at the first sign of a plugged duct or plugged area, immediately begin
massaging area with warm/moist compress (washcloth wrung out in as hot of
water as mom can stand to touch works well). Continue this massaging w/the
compress day and night, *especially* when baby is nursing from that
side. Frequently re-wet washcloth (compress) in warm/hot water. Again, do
this throughout the day and night; whenever possible, mom can be gently
massaging the area with moist heat.

- switch baby's position at breast so, as much as possible, baby's lower
jaw is below the affected area

- nurse on "all 4's" (that is, baby on ground on back looking up and mom
kneeling over baby with breasts hanging down)

- investigate all possible contributors to the plugged ducts (frontpacks,
backpacks, purses, bras, sports tops, bathing suits, sleeping positions,
how baby is carried near chest, use of breast pump, holding off feedings,
limiting feedings, pacifier use; I'm sure others can contribute other
potential reasons)
