Thanks to all who responded to my plea for help. I saw this family again
today. B aby was very alert and much more relaxed. Got her to breast with
nipple shield and she took 1.3 ozs. She had droped a few ounces in weight
since sunday but looked ok. Parents were keeping track of everything
meticulously, amount taken, amount pumped, pees poops, even burbs. Kept
refering to having read in the book, and the book says..., finally I asked
which book they were using, you guessed it --Ezzo. I knew they were deeply
religious but I did not know we had been infultrated. It was given to them
by another couple in the church who had had "successful outcome" with their
child. Explained that the feeding guidelines are too rigid for most babies
and due to continued weight lose they needed to feed more frequently( 10 -
12 x instead of 8) seemed to understand why this was important. Another
layer to this complex situation. The good news is that mom is making tons
of milk. Hope baby gets it before mom gives up and then has no excuse for
not following ezzo program strictly. Went home with fingerfeeder will use
this when nursing unsuccessful. She is giving it till friday, I suggested
she give it two weeks hope she will consider this.
