You might try this article:

Goldman AS et al. Immunologic components in human milk during the second
year of lactation. Acta Paediatr Scand 1983;72:461-2.

And look in the Archives for a post by Kathy Dettwyler on this topic from
Fri, 14 Feb 1997.  It is titled "Benefits of breastfeeding beyond six
months (long)"
She is so eloquent in addressing this issue!  She gave permission to copy
and use her post, also.
