One of our newborns aspirated amniotic fluid at birth and was put in level II
nursery for IV antibiotics and oxygen support for labored breathing. Mom
started pumping copious amounts of colostrum. Pediatrician said baby's first
feed had to be glucose water in case baby aspirated again. What a sad day.
Isn't there research based information that colostrum is less an irritant to
the brochial tree than glucose water would be, not to mention this baby could
have had its mothers antibodies from her milk? I would like these references
to show the pediatrician. Please email me at [log in to unmask] Thanks.
