I had always heard that a mother kangaroo is actually pregnant very soon
after the birth of the "embryo joey", so she has a "pouch joey"
(toddler), an "embryo joey" (newborn) and is pregnant at the same time.
From what I've heard, the one she is pg with develops just to a cetaain
point and is then "on hold" until either of the nursing joeys stops or
dies, then the pregnancy takes off full storm.
What a survival mechanism!  Take about keeping them barefoot and
pregnant!
