Hi Ana,
I would be thinking bacterial infection, with possible superimposed yeast. I
would agree with culture and systemic (by mouth) antibiotics. She can also
do wound care e.g. soap and water cleansing, saline rinses.
Even though this is an older baby (7 mos), I am concerned about her not
breastfeeding between 3pm and 4am, if I read that correctly. That is just a
setup for mastitis!
If she just cannot tolerate baby at breast, she should be advised to express
regularly and I would think cup feed.
I think the APNO can help with immediate symptom relief until effectively
treated.
