There is another aspect of the ecological method of breastfeeding and
LAM that has not been addressed and that is pheromones.  The close
proxity to mother, such as baby being worn on her body and the skin to
skin at night when nursing.

I wonder how much the reciprocal olfactory scents (those put out by the
baby--the wonderful smell that J&J baby powder tries to mimic) and the
mother's own scent contribute to this picture?  My guess is a whole lot
more than we know.  I don't believe the whole picture rests on numbers
of nursings, solid food introduction, or mother's body fat.

Since basic male/female human *attraction* is based on perceived and
even more so on unperceived smells, I believe this sense plays a big
part.
Overriding it by commercially scented perfumes, cosmetics, detergents,
sanitizers, room air fresheners and the like is probable.
