A mother called me the other day with a low milk supply (baby born at 29
weeks, now 32 wks PCA) The baby is in NICU and we have tried all the usual
non-chemical methods for improving her supply. Herbs did nothing. I did
not suggest Reglan because she has a history of severe anxiety and
depression which was treated with Prozac. During her pregnancy, she was
symptom-free and not on antidepressants.

Before she called, she had tried two 10 mg Reglan tablets and immediately
started crying. Her Dr. told her he would not prescribe ANY antidepressants
until she weaned. She wants antidepressants so she can take the Reglan.

My question: What is the wisdom of having her go back on antidepressants
specifically so she can take Reglan? I believe that Zoloft takes several
weeks to take full effect, and by then the Reglan course would be over
long-since. Other antidepressants? Any thoughts, Dr. Tom?
