Has anyone ever dealt with this type of situation? Any ideas.
This is the most outrageous thing I've ever heard!! I received permission
from this mother to copy her post to our list. She is in I Alabama.

Subject: BFing toddlers

I was wondering what those of you do about BFing babies over a year
old? For those of you that are still pumping after that time, do
you send EBM to daycare? For how long do you send EBM or when do
you only give the babies BM by nursing directly once they get older?

Today I was informed by <<son's>> daycare that when he "graduates"
in 3-4 months (he'll be 14-15 mo) that he cannot have BM. They give
milk at lunch, juice for a snack and water at other times. Since he's
allergic to milk I can send in soy milk. What is the big difference
if I have to take milk in for him if it's mine or soy? I was really
ticked off this morning when I left. The teacher was going to talk
to the director & see if we could work something out, but I told her
that I didn't want anyone to tell me when I have to wean. She said
that they weren't. I could keep nursing, I just couldn't send EBM.
I don't want to keep pumping to keep up my supply for when we are
together if I can't use it anyway.

They have a rule against having a bottle once they move to the toddler room,
but they said I couldn't even send the EBM for him to have in a cup. Their
reasoning was that they aren't used to working with breast milk & following
my "rules", which are don't throw it out & gently swirl it to mix it up (I
had seen them vigorously shaking it). I don't think these should be an issue,
because if it's in a cup instead of a bottle they wouldn't be shaking it
anyway. If I'm allowed to send soy milk I don't know why I can't send EBM.
The only excuse I got was that they haven't worked with it before. This is
the first time that the teachers in the older infant class has anybody with
EBM too -- actually there are 2 of us. They have repeated this to me a
few times & I get the feeling that they don't like dealing with it. Oh
yeah, my other rule is to not give him a full bottle just before I pick
him up. If he only gets EBM once a day, at lunch, from a cup I really don't
see how any of this is an issue for them.

I think if I really right it they will back down, I'm just not sure how
much it will take. Who knows if <<son>> will still wanting to nurse by
then, although right now I don't think he'll give it up for a long time.

Other then this I'm pleased with the daycare. I think they do a good
job & really care about the babies.
What are some of you doing or have you done once your baby got older?

What makes her milk at this time any different than before?
