Alicia, re: "post-menopausal new mom" (there's a funny phrase, eh?"-
Do you know any skilled practitioners of Chinese herbal medicine? This
sounds like the kind of situation I would consult my acupuncture/Chinese
herbalist about. They know about lots of stuff that Western medicine doesn't
seem to handle very well. I went to my "Chinese doctor" for persistent hot
flashes, night sweats, etc that were occurring despite being on estrogen,
and he had several effective remedies available. Sage tea, often used for
hot flash relief, would NOT be a good idea - it's a "drier-upper".
Also, is this mom getting enough calcium in her diet? Not just for done
density, etc. - but I think Ca helps to regularize some of those
physical/emotional symptoms. (Someone clue me in if I'm way wrong here,
please - I'm working on "I think I remember...", not "I just looked it up
and...")
Does she have anyone to help her out at home? I'm sure she's exhausted, and
I'm sure she needs more sleep!! I'd be heading towards PPD too, if I were
her.
