The accepted definition of a milk "bank" is where milk is collected,
processed and shipped. The NMBs and other network of centers feeding milk to Prolacta
are milk collection depots. "Milk Bank" has more PR appeal, but is not
correct terminology in my opinion.

There is one HMBANA milk bank in California - The MMB in San Jose (Vallley
Med Ctr). None of the collection depots being set up by Prolacta or its
contractors will be eligible for membership in HMBANA as they do not process milk.
Until we change the law, any hospital or other facility in California that
stores either donor human milk or mothers' own milk for infants will need to be
licensed as a tissue bank.
