Hi Anita
Why is it always TWO cases that are troubling at the same time????

The first case, where mom does well with nipple shield, and without it
develops blister and cracks, is a tough one. Maybe the baby has some very
small bubble on the palate, or rough spot that erodes the nipple?
I had horrible traumatized nipples despite excellent wt gain and appearance
of great attachment, with my second baby, probably due to a tight LABIAL
frenulum. I would check out the oral anatomy more. This may improve over
time with infant growth, so that she may be able to get rid of the shield
eventually.

The second case sounds like yeast that needs the full blown treatment and
probalby all the adjunct therapies too like acidophillus, diet modifications
to avoid refined sugars etc and very clean bras, underwear, etc. Check the
archives for excellent complete treatment plans for yeast. Or Dr. Jacks' new
book. Or the LC series on candidiasis.
