 >It will be a very sad
day indeed if the 'professionals' in this field have a problem with an older
child nursing (and 15 months is no where near 'older' child). <

Thinking of "professionals" and their opinions on long-term breastfeeding...

Several years ago my husband and I applied to be foster parents. We were to
attend a series of parenting classes from the agency before approval. When I
informed the director that I would be bringing my 11 mo.old nursling he was
taken aback and said that would not be possible, so I politely declined the
course and said we would wait until the next year when my baby would
tolerate my absence better.

The director then proceeded to lecture me at length about how important it
was for me to leave my baby, and how unhealthy it was for both of us that I
would continue to coddle him at this age.

I listened politely, respectfully disagreed, adding that nursing a baby this
age is a sign of *good* parenting. I assured him my child would not be
disruptive to others, but if he still insisted my baby was not allowed at
the classes, foster parenting would have to wait until my baby was older.

He was appalled, and repeated his lecture to me about our unhealthy
relationship! I'd never even met this man, only talked on the phone with
him!

I thought to myself, Wait until he comes to inspect my home and finds out
the baby sleeps with me! - and decided against foster parenting.
