Andrea - your entire post just described a situation I ran into at work last
week. A mother expressed her desire to breastfeed only and requested no
artificial nipples or milk. Baby was admitted for a health issue and
because he was crying and crying, a nurse "highly, highly suggested"
(mother's words) that she supplement with formula and SNS "because he was
starving". I was completely dumbfounded. He had been admitted for a very
minor reason, was term gestation, and latching/sucking beautifully.

I know EXACTLY what you mean about being misinformed and scared. That
describes the above mother prefectly. I then had to gingerly go in and undo
what the previous nurse had done. Thankfully, baby nursed beautifully all
night long - but only after having received some ABM.

So I now have a formal complaint filed with management - along with a copy
of Marsha Walker's wonderful "Just one bottle..." article. Frustrating.
