It is my understanding that this is a combination contraceptive like a
regular monophasic birthcontrol pill (ie: estrogen and progestin).
It is basically the pill taken another way. So instead of taking placebo
(sugar) pills for a week every month to cause regular bleeding, the patch is
removed for a week. It would therefore likely cause a reduction in milk supply
because of the estrogen present.
It would be easier to stop using it if a volume reduction is noted, in that
the patch could be removed (unlike a depo shot where it would take 3 or more
months to wear off) but should still be treated with the same caution as
combination oral contraceptives. Some women are fine, but some will have big
problems. It's something new to ask about in cases of unexplained low milk
production instead of just the pill, now that we have several other methods of hormonal
birthcontrol.
