My own milk doesn't freeze well and often tastes sour after being frozen and defrosted.  I believe this is due to a condition where the milk has a high percentage of lipase.  This is something that helps the baby with digestion, but in high amounts causes the expressed milk to start to break down sooner.

As far as I know, this is not harmful to the baby and while some infants will refuse the "off" tasting milk some will not.  Has this mom ever tasted the defrosted milk?  If it tastes bad, I believe the solution is to briefly scald the milk before storing it.  Check the Breastfeeding Answer Book, I believe it addresses this.
