I agree Dawn.   I'd suspect a dietary irritant at work.  Either
something acidic as Dawn mentioned, or an allergy or sensitivity.
Also, depending on how much solid food the baby is getting, I might be
suprised to actually see a 9 mo old *with* formed stools.   I'd suspect
that his diet is still primarily breastmilk.

If it's not, and he is getting a large portion of his cals from solid
food, then I'd definitely look into food
sensitivities/intolerances/allergies right away either by
elimination/rotation or testing (IgG probably).
