I've never posted before, and am seeking information on the passage of
Clomid into breastmilk.I realize that Clomid is a hormone, but I am unsure
of the effects that it would have on a nursing male toddler.

I'm 42 years old, had difficulty conceiving, but I now have a beautiful 14
month old son, Jeffrey, who was conceived using Clomid and IU insemination.
I was on Clomid for 2 months, the first time unsuccessfully at 50mg, and the
second month we conceived while on 100 mg. I would like to have another
child, and the OB-Gyn group I use wants me to wean him to begin Clomid
therapy. I would take 100mg Clomid 5 days a month. My OB will let me
nurse if I wean him for the 5 days that I'm on Clomid, but I'd prefer not to
do that.

I have a well established milk supply, realize that the Clomid may dry up my
milk and hope that it doesn't eliminate it completely. I resumed normal
periods within the first month after delivery (C-section due to
complications at time of birth). I presume that my periods are ovulatory,
as I have an egg-white like mucous discharge mid-cycle and cramping with my
period. Because my periods resumed immediately in spite of breast-feeding,
I'm assuming that the breast-feeding will not interfere significantly with
our chance of conception.

Jeffrey is still enjoying nursing at least 3 times a day.I'm willing to
limit him to just 3 nursings; morning, evening and one middle of the night,
but I'd like to at least maintain those 3 if possible.

My primary concern is with any risk to my son due to passage of the Clomid
through the breastmilk and what effect there would be on a nursing male
toddler. Are there any medical references on this subject? I've seen more
questions than answers. One posting that I read stated that Clomid has a
molecular weight of 406, and would not pass easily into breastmilk. Is
this correct? What MW passes readily into breastmilk? Is the 406 MW of
Clomid marginal or are we safe? Are there any risks to my son if he
continues nursing while I'm on Clomid? Are there any long-term negative
consequences of exposing a male to Clomid?

I'm running out of time for future children, but I don't want to wean
Jeffrey prematurely. I would love to find a reference source that I could
give to my OB-gyn that addresses the potential risks. Then we could agree as
to how to proceed, and hopefully allow Jeffrey to continue nursing, which
seems comforting and natural to both of us.

I appreciate any help you may be able to give me. Thanks in advance!
