RE: Lactation event details

We are excited about an event
planned for Wednesday, March
8, 2000, at 11:30 am, where we
will unveil a new bill to
protect women from being fired
or discriminated against in
the workplace because they are
lactating moms!

Here are the details:

1. First, this event is open
to the public and EVERYONE is
invited to attend.

2. The location: Assuming
there is good weather, the
event will be held at the
"House Triangle" on Capitol
Hill. The House Triangle is a
piece of land located between
the U.S. Capitol and the
Cannon Office Buildling. Any
officer or staffer can direct
you there once you get in the
vicinity of the Capitol. It
is wheelchair and stroller
accessible! In case of rain
or extreme weather of any
sort, we will be in room 2220
Rayburn House Office
Building. The closest metro
is Capitol South.

3. Speakers will include
Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney,
the U.S. Surgeon General David
Satcher, the Director of the
Women's Bureau at the U.S.
Department of Labor, Irasima
Garza, and 4 mothers who have
been fired or forced to quit
their jobs because they chose
to breastfeed their children,
and were using their own lunch
time or break times to express
or pump breast milk during the
work day.

4. The new legislation is a
rewritten version of H.R.
1478, the Pregnancy
Discrimination Act Amendments
of 1999, which was introduced
earlier this year. The new
bill will be assigned a number
when it is introduced. (We
made a few changes to the
original bill to accommodate
the Administration, which is
now supporting our efforts!)

5. The other bills Maloney
has introduced are still in
play, and more info about them
is available on our website:
www.house.gov/maloney

We hope you can join us for
this special event.
