Not an OB or a midwife, but........with a high risk twin pregnancy and pre
term contractions...what are her priorities?
I think this is a question for any OB's and Midwives out there. Pt. is 32
weeks pregnant with twins. She has been admitted to labor department with
preterm labor and is being treated with mag sulfate. Her 18 month old was
visiting her and breastfeeding which caused an increase in contractions.
This is being reported to me, I do not have access to the monitor strip.
The staff told her that she should not breastfeed. This is upsetting to
her and although they have explained the rationale why not to breastfeed,
still chooses to breastfeed. She says everything she has read says it is
ok to breastfeed in pregnancy and that she would have lost the pregnancy
before now if that were the case. Does anyone have any literature or case
studies (recent, evidenced) on high risk pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Thanks,
Mary Westra R.N., IBCLC
