Jan, I will not flame you, but secund (sp?) your opinion.
I think that the first rule applies: Feed The Baby. It would be great if that 
could be his own mothers´ milk at breast or (2nd best) in some other way, or 
if not available some others´ mothers´ milk, but if that isn´t available some 
formula (I know it is not the real stuff, but it still is no poison for most 
babies). not the 1st 24hours, but in the next 24 if it´s obvious that baby is 
not getting any colostrum in. (In The Netherlands they start pooring water or 
glucosewater in (rather soon if baby does not nurse, which in my opnion is 
the last option, ´cause the water fills the baby up, the sugar makes him 
sleepy and it does not add anything healthy or nutritious to the system)
To me it seems equally important to start pumping as soon as it is clear that 
baby is going to have latch difficulties within the first 6 or so hours (it 
will be clear by then if baby will probably be latching that first day or 
not) IN that way there will be suitable food for the baby to overcome the 
time till he starts feeding at his own and it will start mulkproduction early 
enough to prevent future supplyproblems.
