Yes, keep those political topics flowing here, especially for those of
us who do not live in the US. 
 Remember the Chicago Hope thing several years ago? It was discussed
here in Lactnet when the show hit the airwaves in the US.  A year later,
when the show was aired in Israel, we were ready.  I mentioned in a
lecture the fact that this show was sponsored by artificial milk
companies, especially a certain one which sells artificial milk here in
Israel.  This company heard about what I said and threatened to sue me
unless I wrote a letter of apology, or produced proof.  I looked in the
archives, printed all the links that were presented here and produced
them.  That was all the proof  I needed. I never could have done that
without Lactnet. The issue was dropped. 
IN addition, having been forewarned that this program had artificial
milk company links, mothers were not so alarmed by it.  The Ministry of
health provided a message which gave mothers correct information about
how to know that the baby is getting enough milk and gave names of
Lactation Consultants to contact if they were worried.
 
What we do is not just about breastfeeding cases and clinical
techniques.  It is about protecting breastfeeding, and we can protect
better if we know what forces are working to undermine that which we
hold so precious. 
 
I have gotten so much interesting information from this forum, so many
helpful articles, and so many handouts that I would never have known
about.  Valerie has given me so much information about the marketing of
this stuff.  All the information about Martek was so useful when I was
called to defend something else I said against DHA and again the
artificial milk companies called me to defend what I said.
