Perhaps someone on the IBLCE board is also on LACTNET. In the event no one
in that category is, here is what I understand about what you Teresa asked
about "honorary IBCLC."

1) To my knowledge, there is no such thing.

2) Some people who participated in writing the first exam (creating it!) (I
was one) were grandmothered in. I had to take the exam in 1991 in order to
be recertified. That is, those originally grandparented because we were not
ALLOWED to take it HAD to recertify by exam if we chose to retain the
credential.

3) Some people in the above grandmothered category did not recertify. I
suspect that those people are the ones who are referring to thesmelves as
having "honorary IBCLC."

4) the first exam DID occur in 1985 so that date is right.

5) It is my understanding that the ILCA rep did raise the issue of persons
on the IBCLE Board who have not recertified. I do not know if this has been
rectified. Perhaps someone else knows.

I hope the above clarified things.
