Some of you may see a AP article in your local newspapers today (or yesterday) entitled "Doctors Seek to Solve Preemies' Problems" by Lauran Neergaard. Here's a link to the story on the Forbes website - http://www.forbes.com/home/feeds/ap/2006/08/07/ap2932321.html

There is not one single word in this article about breastmilk for preemies and the increased incidence of NEC in infants fed anything besides breastmilk. Not one word! The research is out there for any of them to see. Do these docs just not read their own organizations' publications?

I hope every newspaper that runs this article gets letters from local breastfeeding supporters, including IBCLCs, LLLLs and breastfeeding mothers. It would be really great if a few pediatricians spoke up, too! This kind of information should be brought to the attention of the public as well as the practitioners!

Cee

PS - Thanks to Kathy Soler-Sala, IBCLC, for bringing this article to my attention.
