Brenda asks about whether the "gift" bags from formula companies can be
considered a conflict of interest for hospitals and whether this would be a
tact to be used in getting them out. I have long wondered how the hospital
can ask an employee to sign a conflict of interest statement which states
that we understand we cannot accept gifts over a certain amount in a year
from companies doing business with the hospital and then turn around and
accept such gifts worth tens of thousands of dollars themselves. YES, I
think it is something worth pointing out to the hospital ethics committee,
the administration and anyone else who is responsible for overseeing
(overlooking?!) this type of thing. Geeesh, it sure seems like a no-brainer
to me!!!

Marsha, who got fired for naively attempting to enforce the hospital's own
policies with such a company!
