According to the Nursing 99 Drug Handbook, the action of Florinef is to
"increase sodium reabsorption and potassium and hydrogen secretion at
the nephrons' distal convoluted tubules." It is given orally. Onset of
action is "variable" with peak at 2 hours and duration of 1-2 days. The
adult dosage is 1 mg. daily and it is indicated for treatment of
"salt-losing adrenogenital syndrome." It is contraindicated in presence
of systemic fungal infection and requires monitoring of blood pressure
and electrolyte levels.

Maybe our physicians and pharmacists can comment on appropriateness of
use during breastfeeding. I'll be happy to look it up again if anyone
has further questions.

Re generic names--yes this will help our international participants.
However, I would ask that the brand name be given also if know so that
we don't have to look up every drug. We are more likely to be familiar
with the brand name in many cases.
