I have a 38 year old primip., normal delivery, now day 2.
Complications post delivery - inverted uterus, placenta was left
attached for about 2 hours, mum lost 1 1/2 litres of blood.
Transfused with 6 units. Mum badly shocked, transfered out. Now
back and desperate to feed. Baby has been bottle fed up until now.
Mum has had no breast stimulation until now (day 2). Baby
jaundiced. Baby not keen to breast feed now. Midwives using supply
line with full strength formula to encourage baby, 3 hourly. I have
explained that the baby won't take the breast if it is getting
automatic food and not been left to get hungry! Questions for me
are: Chances of sucessful breastfeeding?? Full strength formula vs.
1/2 strength?? One midwife suggested formula mixed with glucose
water or just feeds of glucose water. I have never heard of this.
Any other tips would be greatly appreciated. By the way, it is
highly likely that she also has retained products. And while on the
subject. What would have happened had she had a hysterectomy?
