I will be the first to affirm that many people with absolutely no credentials know an
amazing amount about breastfeeding. However... I am incredulous that no mention
is made of a desire that the candidate have *any* breastfeeding education (much
less be an IBCLC, the gold standard!). Computer skills are important, though...

As easy as it is to get through some medical schools -- even in maternal and child
health -- with little mention of breastfeeding, a good part of that first year of a
fellowship could be spent just acquiring some of the knowledge that an IBCLC would
already have. Just think what could be accomplished if someone is hired who
doesn't need remedial education.

Hopefully, there will be someone on Lactnet who will apply.

Diana Hatch, MS, IBCLC
Denton, TX
