We conduct home follow-up visits for all mothers who deliver at our hospital
(the program's been in place for 3 years).  What I have found is Day 4 or 5
for vag. deliveries is the ideal time--this way, they've had a few nights at
home to get a "feel" for this breastfeeding thing.  Also, you'll catch those
babies who, for whatever reason, are not getting enough fluid and may be
getting dehydrated.  For c-sect. moms, probably Day 5 would work best since
they're in the hospital longer.  Hope this helps!
