Is taking MORE from the bottle (premie or full term) necessarily a good
thing?

Yes, if you are the insurance company or the hospital administrator.
Getting premies out faster is the primary goal in the USA. We are not allowed to
give them time to exclusively breastfeed as in Scandinavia. Short term gain -
long term problems - which many of us are fighting.

Are there any studies that actually show kcal (energy) used during the act
of breastfeeding vs the act of bottle feeding? The baby can (and does)
rest
frequently during breastfeeding -- but chug a lugs during bottle feeding.
Which is more energy saving?

Excellent question. I believe those studies exist, but I will look.
Bottle-feeding is faster (actually cup-feeding is faster still if you pour it in as
in India) so takes less time (another value in the USA - aren't we strange?).
