Marsha- I hope all goes well tomorrow. Like eveeryone else has already said-
involve your union if needed but I think your best "facts" to present to
your manager is a copy of your Ethics and Standards as an IBCLC a a copy of
your purchasing departments guidelines on vendor visits. I'd also get a
note or copy of what ever documentation they have about violations this rep
has committed. If your manager is too biased to face the facts that you
acted not only responsibily as an IBCLC but as an employee of your hospital
in maintaining policy than I'd ask for an immediate appointment for both
you and your manager with the Dept. Chief.
I'm sooo sorry you got hit with something this stupid. Your ethics have
always been above board- unfortunately it seems your managers aren't.
If she's too stupid to see this as an error on her part and does something
rash I'd find a good lawyer and hit the media if the hospital lets her get
away with this!
Lastly- my rant: So... your manager believes that her support of this rep,
a salesman, doesn't place her into a relationship as a marketing agent for
this formula company? If you all quit using that reps product and went to
another brand would it cost your hospital something? Would you lose
patients over it? The rep is a salesman for heavens sake- not a
stockholder, patient or employee of that hospital. He brings and gives
nothing to the overall reputation and care your hospital provides. So
friggin' what if he's upset- whats he going to do? refuse to sell your
hospital products? He'd lose his job for that. I think your purchasing
dept. should have filed a complaint with the reps supervisor for policy
violations and requested either a new rep or quit using their product.
HAng in there- your an awesome lady!
