Ann -

From 1992 - 2005 I owned two breastfeeding support centers/stores in Arizona. In order to fit most women well, I believe we had about 8 brands, 20 styles and sizes from 32A to 48K. Our stock ran at about 500 sizes/styles/colors per store (8 2-drawer lateral file cabinets stuffed full!) Of the women who walked in the door, about 95% were in the wrong size bra.

When a mom shops at a hospital store and purchases an item, whether a bra or a pump or a flange, she usually believes that it is the best choice in her situation, even if there are better choices available elsewhere. Unless you are going to keep enough stock and train everyone who sells the bras to fit moms, the mom would probably do better by a referral to someplace who has the stock & expertice to fit her well.

Some on the list have mentioned that special bras are not necessary. This is probably true for your small to average breasted woman. The larger woman usually benefits from a well-fitted nursing bra. Other moms usually like the convenience of a bra that facilitates breastfeeding in the early weeks/months.

I get asked this all the time and would also like to provide a small
selection for some clients... What is the best, most comfortable nursing bra around?
