Mandy,
We use only oral syringes for this purpose.

Over a year ago, our hospital changed out all feeding tubes so they no
longer connect to a luer lock of IV tubing or injection syringes. Only oral
syringes for use with oral medications can be attached to them because these
syringes have a fatter/larger tip that doesn't fit into the luer lock of
injection syringes.

This change has been a good thing I think for colostrum collection and
feeding. Good for the nursery's tube feeding because the oral syringes
connect so well to the hub of the feeding tube. And good for oral feeding of
colostrum, etc because the oral syringes have a much longer and smoother
snout to them that parents and staff like and they no longer worry about the
tip hurting the baby.

Liability of product use is less with them because oral use is what they are
made for. And a needle can not be attached to them so we have not had issues
(yet) with JCAHO concerns about them being left at a parent's bedside either.
