Thanks to all for the input on the case of the mom w/unilateral vasospasm &
intense nipple pain. An update: mother reports much less pain w/pumping--a
'2' vs. '9' with nursing. She pumped @ 24 hr, then bf baby once & that was
less painful. I'm thinking the pain may have been icw the needle lancings.
Talked with Barbara WC & she theorized that if the duct was plugged long
enough, there may have been some involution of the lobe draining into that
duct that could have caused pain and that the vasospasm is the nipple's
response to pain. Mom saw OB who did not think she had mastitis. Mom also
having gall bladder pain, so when OB sent her for an ultrasound, he also
requested that she have the breast imaged as well. We hope to get those
results today.

Will let you all know how this resolves.

Thanks again!
