Colostrum does not support growth, Her nursling
will have to get some other food because breastfeeding will no longer be
sufficient nutrition.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i did not catch the original post and am wondering what i missed ? why
would there be undue concern at this age for the nursling to get
adequate nutrition? are there special circumstances that require s/he
be exclusively breastfed for much longer? any reason mom won't be
starting solids by or at a year? or is the fear that her milk supply
might drop sooner than that?
when my 1st was 8 mos, i became pregnant again. he was exclusively
bf'ed and started solids at 11 mos and we never had a hitch in our
bfing experience. i did not notice a drop in milk supply w/ any of my
5 pgcs until 19-22 weeks. so that should put an 8 month old at about a
year, right? so i would think starting solids would help out w/ any
concern there. i never needed to supplement w/ any artificial milks of
any kind as long as i catered to the nurslings' desire to nurse on
request. when my 3rd son was 6 mos old, i got pregnant again and still
had no problems w/ supply and meeting his nursing needs altho he did
aggressively seek out starting (stealing it from sibs is more
accurate!) solids by 8 mos.
so i am reading this post and wondering what i am missing - i thought
getting pg again when a nursling was 8 mos old was the epitome of
perfect timing ! still so invested in bfing the pgc wasn't likely to
make them wean, old enough to start solids by the time the milk would
wane, young enough to be likely to accept tandem nursing alongside a
newborn ... i'd be congratulating and reassuring this worried mom!
