The real point of this clip is the complete disxonnect between Sigrid's
words and the situation.
She is interviewing this politician, challenging him on his party's stance
on reserving a certain number of weeks of parental leave for fathers. At
present, 14 weeks must be taken by the other caregiver if the child's
mother has a partner. If the partner doesn't take those weeks, they are
forfeited. Employers are already required by law to give the mother's
partner time off - we are talking about Norway, remember.
A new governmwnt is taking over nest week, following parliamentary
elections in September. The new coalition plans to reduce to 10 weeks the
period reserved for partners, and allow families to decide for themselves
how to divide the leave between caregivers.
Sigrid keeps askingbthisnpolitician why he wants to change an arrangement
that works so well. Does he not see that she and many other mothers need to
have their partners free to care for babies when they go back to their
other jobs?
Only, she suddenly needs to express some milk because her breasts are so
full, and once she gets the pump going, she needs to express from the other
side because it starts to leak, and the rest needst to seen to be believed.
Some of us suspect she may have used syntocinon nasal spray before going on
the air :-)
She gave birth on camera though not while on live broadcast, I don't think!
Haven't quite got upnthe nerve to watch that episode yet!
Btw, her assistant also has a young baby, hence the hand expression skills.
She keeps right on topic throughout all the interruptions to the interview
too.
