The whole discussion on The View was a shame. :)

What I meant by erroneous was that the discussion at hand was based on much publicity being released in the US about not giving out frees formula samples/discharge packs.  That is NOT what was being discussed.  While there may be some hospitals somewhere that do not give formula to moms who do not wish to breastfeed or who (for whatever reason) cannot breastfeed, I don't know of any in the Northeast portion of the US.  I am a hospital based LC that works in a baby friendly hospital 1 hour outside of NYC.  In any US hospital setting that I have been in, formula was available (probably too available, honestly) and no one was ever "forced" to breastfeed.  We educate, not coerce.
